Gender net plus

The Irish Research Council will host an information session on the GENDER-NET Joint Research Call on Tuesday, 30th January for interested applicants. The Council will provide information on how to apply, eligibility criteria, call topics, etc. This GENDER-NET call, which launched on 20th December 2017 and will close on 1st March 2018, is the Council’s newest co-fund and will focus on research which integrates a gender dimension in projects related to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Limerick Literary Festival in honour of Kate O’Brien returns for a 34th year, with this year’s festival Bridging the Gap taking place between 22nd- 25th February. The festival continues to celebrate the life and works of one of Limerick’s most famous writers, whilst attracting prominent local, national and international participants to Limerick so that readers can meet their favourite writers and other readers.

The festival will officially be opened by Columnist Billy Keane on Friday, February 23rd at 6 pm in Limerick City Gallery of Art. It will be followed by As Music and Splendour recital with Mezzo-Soprano Martha O’Brien. On Saturday 24th February, in Limerick City Gallery of Art we welcome Deirdre Sullivan, Kit de Waal, Fergal Keane, Kevin Barry, Lisa McInerney and John MacKenna, who will present a series of talks and readings about their work.

Meanwhile, new events include poetry performances by Stanzas in response to Kate O’Brien’s writing, at Chez Le Fab, this will be followed by an Open Mic event where participants can share their poetry or short stories with each other. Alice Kinsella will read poetry from her new debut collection Flower Press at the Granary, Limerick City Library. Philip Barrett and Declan Shalvey – the creators of the internationally-acclaimed, Limerick-based graphic novel Savage Town – will join John Byrne to discuss their work and the world of comics and graphic novels in general at Ormston House. Novelists Sarah Moore Fitzgerald and Dan Mooney, will deliver a workshop, Getting A Novel Published – From Pitch to Publication at Narrative 4.

Dolan’s will host An Evening of Readings and Conversations with Blindboy Boatclub and Kevin Barry in Dolans Warehouse. The Revolution will not be Spotified follows, which promises to be an amazing night celebrating the power of protest music and performance featuring the finest live musical taken from Limerick and beyond.

On Sunday 25th February, at Belltable we welcome Jana Fischerova who will present her lecture, The Prohibition of Mary Lavelle as a Turning Point in Kate O’Brien’s Career. Desert Island Books returns in collaboration with Dolans, it will be presented by Pat Shortt, Roisín Meaney and Lisa Harding. Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen authors of Oh My God, What A Complete Aisling, will present a conversation about their book for the Key Note Lecture, which will be moderated by Sarah Moore Fitzgerald. The Kate O’Brien Award 2018, will be presented afterwards to the best novel/short story collection by a debut Irish female writer.

Candidaturas

Estimados miembros y seguidores de la SRSI,

Os envío este email para anunciar la apertura de candidaturas para el próximo término de 2 años para Vice-Presidente/a, Secretario/a y Tesorero/a de la SRSI. El vicepresidente actual (Dr Alfonso Blanco) pasa a ser el nuevo Presidente.

Se admiten candidaturas de todos los miembros que estén al corriente de al menos una cuota anual (2016-17 ó 2017-18) y de aquellos que se pongan al corriente dentro del periodo establecido para la candidatura. El plazo para presentación de candidaturas estará abierto hasta el 31 de Diciembre del 2017 y se procederá a llevar a cabo una votación en el primer cuarto del año 2018.

Recordad que la cuota correspondiente al ciclo en curso 2017-18 (y que comenzó en Septiembre 2017) se puede pagar mediante una transferencia a la siguiente cuenta:
